The Sutluj outpour floods the many towns of Chishtian, drowning the vegetation and animals.

BAHAWALNAGAR – On Saturday, a river overflow in the Chishtian tehsil’s Dullah Akko region caused the defensive embankments to collapse, drowning the neighbouring towns.

The makeshift protective embankment in the Dullah Akko region was breached due to the unusually high flow of water. The break caused the road network connecting many communities to be disrupted, and floodwater reached low-lying districts, posing challenges for the local population.

More than 900 people who were stuck in the flooded region have been successfully evacuated by rescue crews, and additional directions for relocating from the affected areas have been issued owing to rising water levels. The floods have also seriously harmed mature crops.

Additionally, the River Sutluj overflowed at Kund Qabil in Arifwala, causing it to crash onto the Norath defensive embankment. Fears of the embankment collapsing owing to erosion from numerous locations have been raised as a result of the collision’s weakening and cracking of the embankment. In the event of any catastrophe, Qasba Chok Marlay and other large places are always in danger of flooding.

Residents of the affected neighbourhoods complain that the Norath embankment is not being appropriately strengthened despite their complaints being brought to the district administration’s attention. They emphasise the urgent need to reinforce the embankment.
