Softball player Alana Snow from Great Britain is keen to get over the disappointment of nearly missing out on the 2020 Olympics as her team is ready to start a redemptive new era and take on the globe.
Snow was a member of the Great Britain team who missed out on the Tokyo Olympics by one victory in 2019 but has since rejoined with her teammates in Dublin for the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup.
Snow is certain that her squad has the same ability to encourage girls to dream of representing their nation in a rapidly expanding sport, much like she previously did, even if their campaign may not garner as much attention as Lionesses, whose FIFA World Cup bid also begins this month.
Snow told the PA news agency, “I can talk from my personal experience growing up in Surrey. “The national team was always what I looked up to, what I wanted to achieve.
“Even though I travelled to the United States and played in college, representing my nation was always my ultimate objective. Similar to the Lionesses, they serve as icons, and we must do everything we can to be that next step for females playing softball.

“Neither a profession nor college provided me with the impetus I needed. My driving force has always been how I can best represent my nation. If given the opportunity, I believe that this team can achieve that for the local ladies, and I would dearly want to be a part of it.
Snow had the opportunity to inform the broader British audience about the existence of her club last month when she took part in a Trafalgar Square home run derby with legendary Major League Baseball players.
The World Baseball Softball Confederation’s 18-team showcase is a multi-step procedure, unlike football’s World Cups, and it begins on Tuesday with the first round of games in Fingal-Dublin, one of three group stage hosts along with venues in Spain and Italy.
Great Britain, ranked 16th in the world, will play ninth-ranked Australia in the tournament’s opening group match. Two teams from each of the three groups of six nations will go to the finals in Italy in July of next year.
In an effort to boost the national teams’ chances of qualifying for the Olympics, UK Sport provided an additional £90,000 in funding to Great Britain’s baseball and fastpitch softball teams in February. However, the sports must first overcome a significant obstacle.
The International Olympic Committee’s October meeting in Mumbai, when the schedule for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics is anticipated to be determined, is highly anticipated by athletes.
The leaders of baseball and softball are hoping that a United States-hosted Games will spark their respective returns and overcome fierce competition from sports like lacrosse, cricket, and flag football. Baseball and softball were included in the Tokyo 2020 Games but will not be included in the Paris Olympics next summer.
Regarding the decision’s effect on the GB project, Snow remarked, “It’s a must.” “To be a part of it is so motivating. Currently, the 2028 Olympics are the only thing we are discussing in the long term.
“How cynical am I? I’m mentally adding it up as a guarantee. Like how baseball and softball are obviously popular in America. The American pastime is it. I am confident that it will be approved.
“Like, absolutely. And I believe that we are constructing, and the outcome from this summer in Ireland is crucial for us as the foundation for what will follow after.
