The highest professional football competition in Ecuador is called the Ecuadorian Serie A, also known as LigaPro Banco Pichincha due to commercial reasons. With 16 teams presently participating, it was established in 1957.

Barcelona SC, with a league-record 16 championships, is the most successful club in the league’s existence. Emelec, Liga de Quito, and Deportivo Quito are some of the other prominent clubs in the league.
