LAHORE-The Pakistani team won an astonishing 80 medals, including 11 gold, 29 silver, and 40 bronze, during the Special Olympic World Games, which took place in Berlin, Germany, from June 17 to June 25.

At several locations, including the airports in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, Special Olympics Pakistan (SOP) authorities, together with the participants’ loved ones and supporters, enthusiastically welcomed the athletes and celebrated their great accomplishments.

The players and officials were garlanded, showered in flowers and rose petals, and welcomed with banners and posters that highlighted their medal-winning performances. “Pakistan Zindabad” cries resounded throughout the area as the country celebrated the success of its elite athletes.

The Pakistani athletes not only won a total of 80 medals, but they also garnered the admiration of spectators from 176 different nations. The athletes who carried the torch during the opening ceremony—Saifullah Solangi, Usman Qamar, Umair Kayani, Faiza Nasir, Naheen Khan, Muhammad Luqman, Zainab Ali Raza, and national champion Sana—expressed their pride at having the opportunity to represent Pakistan and their commitment to seeing that nation receive recognition abroad.

The leader of the delegation representing the national team and Chairperson of Special Olympics Pakistan, Ronak Lakhani, expressed appreciation for the athletes’ outstanding performance in the World Games. Lakhani commended the event’s four years of planning and gave instructors and unifying partners important credit for their achievement. In addition to congratulating the athletes, Lakhani also thanked their parents for helping to develop their kids’ skills.

Yasmin Haider, a SOP adviser, emphasised the importance of the World Games, which are the biggest event in the world for volunteers and athletes with disabilities. Haider underlined the apparent excitement and commitment shown by the Pakistani athletes. “As Pakistan’s ambassadors in Berlin, they left a lasting impact on the World Games’ organising committee in addition to inspiring athletes from all of the competing nations with their message of love and peace. We are dedicated to making every effort to carry on this successful path in the future, Haider said.
