Seoul, 16 July 2023 Park Eun-seon was “humiliated” ten years ago by untrue allegations about her sex, but she has moved over the incident and is now poised to compete in her third Women’s World Cup.
The 36-year-old South Korean attacker, who competed in her first World Cup 20 years ago, recently revealed to AFP that she has one more goal for the competition before she leaves.
Prior to the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand beginning on Thursday, Park stated, “I’ve never scored a goal in the World Cup, and I’m training hard with the aim of scoring a goal.
As I usually say, I’m training really hard right now because I believe this is my final World Cup. In his lengthy career, Park has seen both extraordinary highs and genuine lows.
She was a young phenom who participated in the 2003 World Cup for South Korea after joining the team as a youngster.
When she was 19 years old, she had 11 goals for her nation.
Domestic success was also achieved. With 19 goals, she led the league in scoring in 2013 and helped Seoul City Hall finish in second place.

However, six other coaches threatened a league boycott in response to her accomplishments and demanded a gender test.
When South Korea’s Human Rights Commission stepped in and asserted that the coaches’ acts constituted sexual harassment, the suit was dismissed.
“What happened is in the past and I don’t remember much of it now,” Park recalls, recalling how “humiliating” it had been at the time.
She acknowledged having gone through multiple eligibility checks in the past in 2013.
My teammates were incredibly talented at the time, so I was given a lot of opportunities, which led to my scoring a lot (in 2013), she recalls today of the criticism.
“Time has passed, and there are coaches who have apologised subsequently. Now, I’m doing fine. There have also been other ups and downs. “Biggest honour.”
Park was left off the national team for seven years after failing to score in either the 2003 or 2015 World Cups. She believed the end of her worldwide career.
That was before Colin Bell took over as South Korea’s coach in 2019 and the Englishman shocked everyone by recalling her.
He refers to Park as “a game-changer“.
Before the biggest players of today, like Ji So-yun, emerged, Park was one of South Korea’s most well-known female footballers.
But her career was first stalled by claims that she had played for a university team as was customary rather than jumping straight to the professional league when she joined her squad after high school.
After her father passed away in 2010, Park took a two-year vacation from the sport. She finally returned, in part to fulfil his ambitions for her professional future.
Despite all that has occurred in the 20 years since her international debut, she insisted that football “is what I enjoy the most and what I’m best at.”
The finest stage for any football player, she said, is the World Cup.
There is no accolade that compares to going on the biggest stage, competing, and even scoring goals.On July 25, South Korea will face Colombia in the World Cup opener for Group H, which also features Germany and Morocco.
