Pakistan Volleyball Federation receives a stiff fine

Pakistan Volleyball Federation::

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) was penalised $20,000 by the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) for skipping the most recent AVC Challenge Cup in Chinese Taipei.

The PVF was unable to notify the organisers seven days in advance as required by law since the Foreign Office had denied the federation permission on the day the squad was scheduled to travel.

Now that they have already paid for tickets that were non-refundable, the PVF has asked the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) for assistance.

The Pakistani squad was supposed to go for Chinese Taipei on July 5 but was notified at the last minute that they had not received a NOC from the foreign office to compete in the AVC Cup under the One China Policy.

Pakistan Volleyball Federation receives a stiff fine

In accordance with the Asian Volleyball Confederation’s guidelines, the AVC penalised Pakistan $20,000 since Pakistan was not granted a participation NOC despite the Foreign Office’s recommendations.

The foreign office was informed that, in spite of the One China Policy, teams from China still travel to Taiwan to compete and vice versa since, in accordance with IOC guidelines, Taiwan competes as Chinese Taipei.

The Pakistan Volleyball Federation lost Rs13 million as a result of the Pakistani government’s decision to withhold a NOC for participation.

The PVF asserts that because they struggle to raise funds through sponsorship and contributions, they are a poor sport organisation and cannot afford such a significant loss. The Pakistan volleyball team’s future participation in all events would be in peril if they do not promptly pay the $20,000 penalty that has been levied by the AVC.
