Zimbabwe and Nepal both triumphed on the third day of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023.

While Nepal altered up their strategy towards the conclusion of their chase to finish their match against the USA with 42 balls remaining, Zimbabwe chased down a target of 316 in only 40.5 overs.

Sean Williams and Sikandar Raza’s flawless assaults guaranteed Zimbabwe’s second straight victory in the competition. The winning runs were scored by Raza with a six, giving Zimbabwe its third-fastest ODI century. This was their third-highest successful chase overall. The Chevrons have strengthened their case for a spot in the Super Six with this victory.

Craig Ervine, the skipper of Zimbabwe, led the team’s reaction as they sought to reach 316. He scored 50 runs, a good knock, with nine fours, and he contributed 81 runs for the first wicket. Ervine, though, was bowled over for a dismissal in the fourteenth over after misfiring on a Vikramjit Singh delivery towards midwicket, where Clayton Floyd made a diving catch.

At position three, Sean Williams maintained the same loose style that had earned him a century in the most recent game against Nepal. He added 62 from 44 balls, joining Joylord Gumbie, who escaped a couple of scares. When Gumbie (40) ran out of opportunities and was bowled off a beauty by Shariz Ahmad, the stand eventually collapsed.

Wessly Madhevere was also accounted for by Shariz shortly after for 10. Williams, though, continued to go for his runs despite this. In the 23rd over, he needed just 28 balls to reach 50.

When Raza arrived at the wicket, Zimbabwe’s run pace increased even more. Zimbabwe scored more over nine runs per over from the 26th over to the drinks break, lowering the needed run rate to just 4.5. With 17 runs off the leg-spinner in Saqib Zulfiqar’s opening over, the pair was especially cruel.

When Bas de Leede took Williams’ wicket in the 35th over, Williams came agonisingly close to reaching his second straight hundred, but Zimbabwe was already far ahead of the game at this point.

Raza added a quick century off just 54 balls to go along with his four wickets. A hat-trick of sixes against Shariz, a teenage spinner, were part of his blitz. This was Zimbabwe’s quickest ODI century by a hitter.

Zimbabwe chose to bowl after winning the toss earlier in the day. The two teams have identical head-to-head records, having each won and lost three games.

De Leede was welcomed back by the Dutch. The athlete arrived late to the setup after doing county responsibilities for Durham. Zimbabwe played the same lineup that defeated Nepal in their opening match.

In the first hour, the Netherlands‘ openers made the most of a favourable batting strip. Opening batsman Max O’Dowd, who had a 71 average against Zimbabwe prior to this game, had good determination and was involved in runs from the early beginning. Vikramjit Singh, his companion, took some time to relax but ultimately extended his arms. Netherlands reached 57 without losing thanks to the pair’s combined nine boundaries in their first 10 overs. After that, they increased the stakes and made sure the Dutch reached 100 without losing by the 17th over.
